Just signed up for your first tournament?

Now what? What do you bring? What do you need to know? Let’s start at the beginning.

Answers to these questions vary depending on the length of your tournament. Hopefully you signed up for a 1 day, 1-2 round event that. My advice below pertains to this type of event, which can be broken into 2 categories: Rules, and Food/water

The Rules

One of the most important things to know during an event is the rulebook. It’s a dry read, but you don’t need to be able to recite it. Below are the items you should have a firm understand of before the event. There’s much more to the rules, but knowing the below will give you a good foundation.

  • Out of bounds
  • How to mark your lie
  • Order of play
  • Casual Relief
  • Mandatories
  • Drop zones
  • Cour test Violations

Meals and Water

More than likely there will be a lunch break between rounds. At some events food is provided for additional cash, sometimes it’s included with entry. Other times players will bring their own lunch with them, which is the more likely scenario. Remember to eat throughout the day, and enjoy your lunch break. Snacks are helpful to have after the event. I bring two 32oz water bottles tot he event, one for each round. Some events this is overkill, but you only need to regret bringing extra water once.
